Mikołaj Trzaska is an icon of the jazz avant-garde in Poland. Permanently associated with Gdańsk, he has musically travelled both near and far in his search for a common denominator between Chassidic and contemporary music. In the Ircha Quartet project, he delves into the mysteries of Jewish mysticism accompanied by three marvellous clarinettists. This instrumental wind quartet composed of four splendid musician-improvisers, masters of various kinds of clarinet, represents one of the most intimate portraits of contemporary Jewish music. An excellent feel for the delicacy of a theme goes hand in hand with masterly performance, while maintaining a commitment to improvisation.
